Three-Dimensional Dentistry When we diagnose and plan any type of surgery or dental implant, we rely on the Sirona™ GALILEOS 3-D cone beam CT for the most accurate panoramic image. This three-dimensional image gives our doctors a precise and complete model of your jaw as a surgical guide. It contributes to making the surgery very successful and reduces the time and stress for treatment.
Not only is the resolution of the image crystal clear, there is much less radiation than from conventional scans. And the end results – our patients are very pleased, and you will be too. A Screening for Oral Cancer If detected in the earliest stages, there is a 90% chance to cure oral cancer. We conduct visual screenings of the interior of your mouth twice a year during your check-ups and cleanings. If the doctor or hygienist sees any deviation from healthy tissue, you will be referred to an oral surgeon.
For over 40 years the rate of deaths from oral cancer has not changed. Statistics show that one American dies every hour from this cancer. We take your good health seriously on many levels, and this quick and easy screening can save your life! Diabetes puts you at risk for dental problems. It impairs the ability to fight bacteria in your mouth. Having high blood sugar encourages bacteria to grow and contributes to gum disease. You may have gum disease if you have:
Gums that are red, sore, bleeding, or swollen, or that pull away from your teeth
Our teeth show signs of age, just like our bodies. The teeth of our senior patients may show signs of wear or contain fillings that are loose or even have cracks. If certain medications are taken, the necessary flow of saliva may be diminished. Teeth can darken from food, drink, and tobacco consumption. We have solutions to all of these problems that help you maintain or restore a healthy and happy smile.
Gum disease is a frequent problem with seniors. If detected in the early stages, it can be reversed through nonsurgical means. If you ever experience bleeding gums or loose teeth, please call us immediately. Pier 210 Dental Group David Roholt, DDS, MICOI 210 Lincoln Way Auburn, CA 95603 (530) 885-5696 Pier210Dental.com
Prevent Tooth Knock-Outs Our patients who participate in sports need protection from trauma to their mouth and teeth. A custom-made mouthguard will help to prevent tooth damage by reducing the impact of injury to keep your teeth intact. The one-size mouthguards sold in stores do not fit or give you the protection you need. They can even impede your breathing and affect your performance.
Approximately 5 million teeth are knocked out during athletic participation. This is in one year in just the United States! The American Dental Association recommends wearing custom mouthguards for the following sports:
Acrobatics, basketball, boxing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, handball, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, racquetball, roller hockey, rugby, shotputting, skateboarding, skiing, skydiving, soccer, squash, surfing, volleyball, water polo, weight lifting, and wrestling. Much Less Radiation We use only digital X-rays that are quick, efficient, and have 75% less radiation than nondigital images. It is a simple matter of just placing the digital sensor in your mouth to view a complete panoramic image of your teeth and jaws. There is no waiting time for images to develop. They are available immediately on our computer screen and do not use any polluting chemicals in the process. Perhaps you’ve been neglecting a good oral health routine. Or, you’ve done your best, but you’ve developed plaque and tartar buildup. A regular routine of twice-daily tooth brushing and daily flossing is an important part of regular plaque removal for everyone. But if you have risk factors that have caused a buildup of plaque on your teeth and gums to harden into tartar, your dentist or dental hygienist may suggest scaling or root planing your teeth to remove the buildup. If left untreated, severe tartar buildup along and under the gum line can cause the gums to pull away from the teeth, which may increase the risk of gum disease. Scaling and root planing are common nonsurgical techniques that may prevent the need for more serious procedures, such as periodontal surgery or a root canal. Here’s what to expect if your dentist or dental hygienist recommends these techniques:
You won’t feel it. You’ll receive a local anesthetic to numb the area.
Scaling: Your dentist or dental hygienist removes plaque and tartar from the areas both above and below the gum line.
Root Planing: Your dentist or dental hygienist uses special tools to smooth rough spots on the tooth roots. This process not only removes bacteria and helps reduce plaque buildup, but it provides a smooth surface for gums to reattach to the teeth.
After a scaling and root planing procedure, be sure to follow your dentist’s instructions and maintain an oral care routine of twice-daily tooth brushing and daily flossing. If your gums are sensitive after the procedure, try a spongy floss, such as Oral-BÆ Ultra FlossÆ, to help prevent painful flossing. The above article is from: OralB.com
Children’s teeth are prone to cavities – more so than adults. There are several reasons for this susceptibility during their formative years. Often they do not brush thoroughly and miss certain areas of their teeth. We advise parents to oversee their daily dental hygiene to help them develop proper brushing and flossing habits to keep all their teeth clean and healthy.
Children also tend to eat throughout the day. Every time you eat, acids are produced in the mouth to break down foods. Continual exposure to acid can increase the number of cavities.
If teeth are improperly cleaned, that generates additional acid that further increases the rate of cavity development. Better brushing, healthier food choices, and an application of a dental sealant can greatly reduce the risk of a cavity. TMJ/TMD Pain Can Become a Problem of the Past For years you have put up with neck and shoulder pain, aching or popping jaws, and those frequent and excruciating headaches. Your only relief has been medication to suppress the pain. Let our doctors show you another remedy that can prevent the occurrence of most migraine and headache events. Most of this pain is caused by malocclusion – that is to say, your upper and lower jaws do not come together or fit as nature intended. This position creates tension and pain in the jaw joint and adjacent muscles.
If you have lived with this problem for such a long time that you think it is just the way it has to be, we can restore a quality of life that you thought not possible. Set up an appointment today to bring relief and make this problem something from the past. Relief for Headaches For headache sufferers, we offer the FDA-approved NTI™ device. This small miracle is an oral appliance that relieves tension in muscles of the scalp and prevents the occurrence of most headaches. Those patients who have used the NTI device develop 77% fewer headaches. It is an easy alternative to medication, works fast, and is very affordable. If you or someone you love has suffered too long, let us show you how we can help.
Restore Receding Gums with the NEW Chao Pinhole Gum Lift Technique™ Our practice is licensed to provide patients with the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ for obvious or excessive gum recession. Also referred to as a Lunchtime Gum Lift®, this is a surgery-free, minimally invasive procedure. It is an alternative to gum grafting with less pain and healing time involved.
There is no cutting with a scalpel. Instead, several small pinholes are placed above the gumline. With special instruments, the gum tissue is loosened and guided to cover any exposed root surfaces of teeth. Tiny strips of collagen are inserted through the pinholes to plump up the tissue and hold it in place in the new position. There are NO incisions, NO sutures and minimal discomfort or swelling.
